Texas Recycling supports the idea of Zero Waste.
According to the Ellen MacArthur foundation, 8 million tons of plastic goes into the oceans every year. Currently, it may contain as much as 150 million tons of this waste, and if the situation does not change then by 2050 there may be more plastic than fish. Only the use of technology to convert plastic waste into fuels can change the balance of power in further pollution of the planet with waste plastic.
Worldwide, waste plastics are one of the biggest obstacles to putting the Zero Waste idea into practice. In the EU, only 29.7% of them are recycled, the remaining 70.3% goes to incineration plants or landfills. If we want to make better use of raw materials and eliminate waste, this situation should be reversed.
Plastics, as a non-biodegradable material, pose a huge threat to the natural environment. Growing production and leaky waste management systems cause pollution that can cause irreversible damage to the environment.
Low levels of recycling mean that over 90% of plastics are produced from extracted fossil fuels. As a result, their production consumes as much as 6% of world oil consumption, which is the same as the aviation industry. If the current level is maintained, in 2050 this amount will increase to 20%. If we want to change current trends, we must make profound changes. We believe that Petrel is able to contribute to the reversal of this situation and create conditions in which waste plastics will be processed in an economic and environmentally safe manner and their true potential will not be lost.
